March / April Update

Hello to everyone… Hope your spring season is getting off to a good start!

Terry’s doing pretty well… We had a little setback in early March; he developed aspirating pneumonia and was hospitalized for 4 days. We caught it early, but this is a condition that doctors have warned us he’s susceptible to, due to a swallowing deficit. It’s very serious and can be life threatening. Staying active is the key in hopes of avoiding this condition and as he continues to heal, this should improve. The doctor sent him home with an oxygen unit and Terry also does daily breathing exercises, which will continue for another few weeks. He continues physical therapy 3 times a week and has a light workout regimen he does at home on his off days. The goal is to increase his level of activity as much as possible to regain balance, build strength and endurance.

It’s hard to believe we’re coming up on two years since his accident. For those of you who are wondering what life is like for Terry today, well, his quality of life is good. He can’t do many of the things he once did, but that doesn’t mean he never will. He wants to drive, do his yard work, go to the races, buy a new Honda 450 to go riding, he wants to see his friends he hasn’t seen in a few years and so on. But, from a physical standpoint, some of these things aren’t possible yet. And for someone, whose hobbies solely include going really fast on a dirt bike, makes it very hard to find new, slower paced things to do. I’ll admit, we enjoy having him home spending quality time together. I have him watching my favorite TV shows without a complaint…

Terry knows there’s still a lot of work ahead and he’s not giving up!

Thank you all for checking in and staying in touch. It means so much.

Everybody have a great summer and race season!! We hope to see you.

Our sincere love,
