Terry Poovey - Condition Update Report - October 29, 2006
Terry had a great week.
First, it was the 27th anniversary of the best thing that ever happened
to him, Kathey marrying him! They spent their anniversary together.
Given the events of the year it was a joyous time of togetherness and
thankfulness for the many miracles in their lives. Second, last Friday
was "Pulling for Poovey" day at Rehab. All of the nurses, therapists and
staff wore their Terry Poovey T-Shirts and everyone celebrated his
continued progress. We have attached a few pictures of him and his
friends at Rehab. Third, Terry and eight other fellow patients got to
leave the facility and go to the Texas State Fair. This outing was a
good day in the autumn fall sun and moderate temperatures.
Terry continues to steadily improve. He got the trach tube taken out. He
is eating well and gaining weight. He's moved to the next level in Rehab
now upping his workouts to 7 - 8 hours daily.
Kathey and Terry read your cards and guestbook postings together. He
asks about many of you. Keep-em coming they are a comfort and reminder
to him. Thank you for your continued support, thoughts and prayers. May
God bless all of you.
Thank you.
Today is October 8, 2006 and in another week Terry will be 5 months into his recovery. He’s come a long way since May 28. Since being is this acute rehabilitation program, 6 weeks this week, he’s made very good progress. It’s extensive and grueling. He’s no longer taking baby steps, he’s making strides. Currently the day consists of four hours of therapy with intermittent breaks. This includes speech, occupational and physical therapies. He’s improving in all areas.
The next level of rehab which should begin approximately October 30, will be a more extensive program. The amount of therapy will double as opposed to what he’s accomplishing today. He’s ready and up for the challenge and based on his progress this program will conclude in approximately 6-8 weeks.
A TBI patient, as we’ve learned, requires intense rehabilitation and a lot of time for healing. We’re approximately half way there. It’s been a long road and we still have a ways to go but he’s getting there. You know someone is getting well when all they talk about is going home. More than anything that’s what we want.
We would personally like to take a minute to thank everyone for your cards, letters, emails, phone calls and most importantly, your prayers. We’re so touched by the outpouring of support and expressions of love. He is also. We look at the website daily and the guest book entries keep us going. Thank you Jennifer for working so diligently on this and giving us this wonderful tool for communicating. Our prayers are being answered. Terry’s getting well and we’re in hopes of a full recovery.
